Drum Rotator with Clamping Chain and Pin Mechanism for Drum Handling

In order to lift and rotate drums of any size, a sufficient clamping mechanism is essential. The SC10 clamping mechanism incorporates a Chain and Pin mechanism in order to carry out this clamping process.

Designed for handling steel drums as standard, the arms of the SC10 clamp are manufactured to fit the diameter of the drum being lifted. The Chain and Pin mechanism is then used to hold the drum in place during lifting and rotating.

For plastic drums, which often do not have the ribs such as those found on steel drums, a safety adapter can be fitted to allow for easy lifting and rotating.

The forward tipping motion is operated using a 50:1 gearbox and a hand-wheel. This allows for a full rotation of the drum, if required.

The unit as a whole is lifted on the forks of a forklift truck and is attached using fork pockets. It is secured in place using Zinc plated ‘T’ bolts, and finished in a hard wearing blue gloss powder coat.

Specifications:

Safe Working Load (SWL): 500kg

Handling Longer Rolls with the Extended Forward Tipping Clamp Attachment

New to Packline, for handling longer rolls, the extended forward tipping clamp attachment is now available. Longer length rolls of material can now also be lifted and tipped when necessary.
Geared forward tipping allows the operator to re-orientate the roll easily by turning the hand-wheel.
By placing the gearbox on one arm and the rotating pad on the other, this allows the roll to rotate through 360 degrees.
The customer required a solution to pick up long rolls of zinc sheeting in the horizontal from a trolley, tip the rolls forward into the vertical orientation and then place them down onto a pallet ready for shipping.
The straddle legs of the lifter were required in order to move the truck and clamp close enough to the trolley to pick up the roll from the centre of the trolley.
Due to the softness of the roll’s material, it was a concern that the clamping force may crush the roll. As a result, the expanding support block was designed to be manoeuvred down into the core of the roll where the clamp will exert pressure.
Specifications:
Maximum Capacity: 200kg
Load Centre: 740mm from front of column
Attachment Mass: 90kg
Main Materials: Stainless Steel 304, Alumnium 6082/T6, Delrin Polypropylene, Brass, Phosphor Bronze.

Roll Handling Equipment with Clamp Attachment and Retainers

Rolls or reels of film or foil can have a tendency to telescope, or drums can slip or crush when being lifted from the core or the circumference. This handling issue is usually overcome by using a higher rated torque unit to lift the rolls or drums. In some cases a higher rated torque unit is still not sufficient to prevent the rolls or reels from telescoping or the drums slipping whilst being lifted. In these situations an alternative solution is required.

This issue can be resolved by the use of a clamp attachment with adjustable retainers. These adjustable retainers are designed to cover a wide range of roll, reel and drum diameters and lengths, all of which can be lifted by the clamp attachment.

‘Star knobs’ are used to secure the retainers in place vertically by screwing into the sides of the arms. The width of the retainers is then adjusted using plunger pins through holes in the plates.

A fully stainless steel and anodised aluminium solution means that this roll handling solution is suitable for the food processing and pharmaceutical industries, ideal for handling rolls or reels of film or foil; and drums of ingredients.

Specifications:

Safe Working Load (SWL): up to 200kg depending on drum or roll type and size.

Maximum Roll or Drum Diameter: 550mm

Minimum Roll or Drum Diameter: 200mm

Drum Handling Attachment with Double Quick Release

This drum handling attachment, from Packline Materials Handling, was designed to handle drums by their rim. This lifting solution is suitable for lifting drums that are difficult to handle due their thin wall.

Traditional drum clamp attachments will crush the wall of the drum, creating problems in lifting the drum safely.

This bespoke solution involved handling drums of tomato puree; therefore the thin walled drum contained a dense and heavy substance.

The quick release drum lifting attachment with double grip, in stainless steel, safely and securely holds the drum allowing it to be transported from the pallet to the dispensing area. Constructed from stainless steel, this complete lifting solution is suitable for food and pharmaceutical production areas.

The V-shaped legs allow easy access to the corner of a pallet enabling the operator to easily manoeuvre the lifter to access and handle the drums.

The quick release grippers mean that the operator can stand behind the truck to attach, lift, lower and detach the drums. The lifter can be designed and manufactured with either manual or electric lift depending on the specific requirements.

Specifications:

Safe Working Load: 400kg

Drum construction: thin walled drums

Drum shape: slightly tapered sides

Lifting Ring Attachment for Handling Drums or Barrels of Ingredients

The lifting ring-shaped attachment is designed to lift large vats or drums of ingredients into and out from a production line.

These large drums or vats were shaped similarly to an inverted cone. Due to the unusual size and shape of the vats a clamping mechanism for the lifting attachment would not be suitable for this specific lifting requirement.

A ring-shaped attachment with a ‘cut-out’ section with the correct angle on the circumference of the attachment was designed in order to lift the drum from beneath and grip the drum half way along the drum’s length.

A strip of natural rubber has also been added to ensure that the vat of ingredients is not damaged during the lifting or lowering manoeuvres.

Specifications:

Safe Working Load: 60kg

Diameter of attachment at contact with Vat: 500mm

Pallet Dispensers from Packline Materials Handling

Pallet Dispensing Systems are fast becoming a key element for improving working conditions in a warehouse environment.

The risk of ergonomic problems with pallet handling are reduced to a minimum and accidents are eliminated.

Pallet lifetimes are increased largely as they are less likely to become damaged when stored in a dispenser.

The area within which pallets are stored is also reduced considerably as the pallets are stacked upwards as opposed to next to each other in smaller stacks of pallets.

Using a dispenser also makes the operation much more hygienic as there is no physical contact between the operator and the pallet.

The Electric Dispenser has the capacity to stack 15 pallets, or a total of 500kg, and it is capable of stacking and de-stacking one pallet at a time or the whole stack of pallets.

The Pneumatic Dispenser has the capacity to stack 15 to 25 pallets, or a total of 500kg to 1000kg, depending on the model. The pneumatic dispenser is capable of stacking and de-stacking one pallet at a time as well as the whole stack.

Guarding is supplied in order to support the pallets higher up once they have been stacked.

Bolts to fasten the dispenser to the floor are included for easy installation and an extended pallet for transportation.

Fork Attachment for Handling Drums, Reels and Cylindrical Loads

The fork lifting attachment is designed to lift reels of foil or film in the horizontal position from a pallet or the floor using the circumference of the load, leaving the core free.

This solution was necessary to lift a reel from a pallet when in the horizontal position, but only using the circumference. The fork attachment pitch can be adjusted in order to fit around the circumference of the reel or drum.

The requirement was to load the reel onto a cantilever mandrel mounted to the processing line, meaning the lifter itself needed access beneath the processing line. Standard lifter legs would be too tall for this solution.

As a result, the lifter was fitted with low profile legs which only stand 65mm from the ground. This enable the lifter to gain close enough access to load the reel into place.

The straddle legs were necessary in order to lift the roll from the pallet and also lower to the floor if required.

Specifications:

Safe Working Load: 250kg

Fork Lengths: 600mm, 800mm or 1150mm

Maximum Diameter Reel: 750mm on a 690 carriage, 1000mm on an 810 carriage.

For more information on the fork lifting attachment for reels or drums, or the full range of materials handling equipment, please contact Packline Materials Handling.
